Bethpage High School Auditorium
10 Cherry Avenue, Bethpage, NY
Client: Bethpage School District
Architect: John A. Grillo Architect, PC
Size: 5,000 s.f.
Cost: $1 million
Stalco performed a gut renovation of Bethpage High School’s 5,000 s.f. auditorium and adjacent spaces. The project encompassed demolition of walls, floors, ceilings, seats, and MEP systems; installation of new VCT and carpet flooring over the auditorium’s pitched concrete floor slab; acoustical wood and fabric panel, drywall, and acoustical metal tube walls; acoustical ceilings; refurbishment of acoustical panels in front of the stage; and new seating for 350 people. Stalco also built a new steel support structure for the rooftop HVAC equipment and a new sound booth.
The aim of the renovation was the improvement of the auditorium’s acoustics. In addition to the wall panels, Stalco installed a 1,000-s.f. acoustical ceiling wave, comprised of shaped tiles suspended on stainless steel airplane cables. The renovation improved the quality of the auditorium’s acoustics so much that many productions are now performed without microphones.
Construction took place during the school year, which necessitated implementation of numerous safety precautions, such as temporary walls and dust barriers. Stalco coordinated all activities with two other prime contractors.
