Stalco served as general contractor for an extensive renovation and conversion of a former maintenance building into a new community and park management facility that serves the entire Brooklyn Bridge Park, one of Brooklyn’s most popular outdoor areas. The structure is located on a 10,650-sq.-ft. site situated directly beneath Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn’s trendy DUMBO area. Stalco employed vibration monitors during construction to protect the historic neighborhood. |
The project included demolition of two adjacent storage structures and a portion of the main, one-story building. Stalco then constructed a new curtain wall on the west and south elevations, refurbished the original exterior walls, built a new storefront-type entrance and additional window and garage door openings, and completely renovated the interiors in order to create offices and community facilities. |
The building’s exterior features a glass and aluminum curtain wall and main entrance, with a portion of the wall constructed of soundproof glass. Stalco constructed a new access door, windows, and a garage-type door in the side, brick wall of the building to provide access to a new compactor room. The upgrades included a new reflective EPDM roof and all new MEP systems. |
The renovated building houses three private offices, a 600-square foot community room with a display area, a 1,500-square foot workshop for community programs, a kitchen, two public bathrooms, a locker room, and a basement storage area. Interior finishes include polished and sealed concrete floors, painted gypsum board walls, and porcelain tiles in the bathrooms. |
