Oyster Bay High School
150 East Main Street, Oyster Bay, NY
Client: Oyster Bay-East Norwich Sch. Distr.
Architect: BBS Architecture & Engineering
Size: 9,000 s.f.
Cost: $3 million
Stalco served as general contractor for the ground-up expansion and renovation of the Oyster Bay High School complex. The project encompassed a 4,000-s.f., two-story addition, as well as renovations to 21,000 s.f. of the exterior and 5,000-s.f. of interiors in the pre-existing building.
Structural work included new foundations and the steel structure for the addition. The brick and ornamental pre-cast concrete façade of the new wing resembles the exterior of the original, historical building, erected in 1929.
The addition features an arched entrance with a custom FRP storefront, hallway, two science classrooms, and internal connections to the pre-existing structure. The new and renovated classrooms feature masonry walls, VCT tile flooring, and acoustical tile ceilings.
Stalco performed the renovations in an occupied school. To ensure student safety and prevent dust contamination, the firm erected a temporary sheetrock wall with one-way entrances around the construction areas. The entrances provided the fire egress for the school, but prevented access into the school through the construction zone.
