Cost: $12 million Stalco served as general contractor for the complete renovation and redevelopment of the Manorhaven Beach Pool Complex in Port Washington. The project encompassed renovations to the 12,200-s.f. bathhouse, a new 2,000-s.f. pump house, 800-s.f. maintenance equipment garage, and construction of new 25,000-s.f. main and wading pools. The complex features competition/lap swim, general swim, beginners/splash, and slide plunge/training sections within the elaborately shaped main pool; and a separate children's wading/splash pool. The landscaping and outdoor features include a large island with a waterfall, stained concrete terraces and decks with shade structures, an elevated a dining area, and vegetation landscaping sections. The bathhouse contains a concession stand, event room, offices, meeting rooms, childcare facilities, locker rooms, and bathrooms. Interior finishes include concrete walls; sheetrock divider walls; and paracrete, porcelain tile, and linoleum flooring. Exterior walls combine cementitious board and thermal insulation with Z-bars. The roof features louvers and trusses for reverse gables. The project's main challenge was the short schedule. The complex had to be completed by the beginning of the following year's season, and the construction could not begin prior to the end of the previous year's season. Stalco accelerated the schedule by erecting large tents and employing industrial heaters in order to continue pouring concrete during a very cold winter.
