| Stalco constructed a new greenhouse and surrounding landscaping inside an internal courtyard of the Plainedge Middle School to serve as part of the STEM curriculum. The project called for removal of the existing sidewalks and planted areas; construction of a new slab-on-grade foundation with footings; new electrical and plumbing connections; and erection of the greenhouse structure donated to the school. |

| The greenhouse features clear polycarbonate panels, light-harvesting LED lighting, hose connections, electric heaters, a large stainless steel wash sink, metal raised planting tables, operable vents for ventilation and temperature control, and floors pitched toward trench drains. The Stalco team matched new pavers surrounding the greenhouse to those already installed at the Plainedge High School for visual consistency between the district’s schools. |

| Even though the project was comparably small in size, the construction team faced several logistical challenges. For example, the only access to the construction site was through the school’s hallways, which complicated material and equipment deliveries and necessitated extensive protection of the pathways through the existing building. As the project required a significant amount of concrete, Stalco utilized a concrete pump truck, which extended its boom to the construction site from the parking lot and over a one-story wing of the school. |
