SUNY Farmingdale Dental Hygiene Center
2350 Broadhollow Road, Farmingdale, NY
Client: NYS University Constrution Fund
Architect: David Smotrich & Partners
Size: 8,000 s.f.
Cost: $1 million
The project encompassed a gut demolition of the preexisting interiors and a complete build-out of a large lab with 46 dental hygiene stations, a new building entrance, vestibule, waiting room, reception area, conference room, and file room. The project was phased and originally scheduled for completion in 11 months. Through increased work time and a detailed, advancepreparation, Stalco completed the first phase in only six months, instead of planned nine months, and accelerated the second phase, resulting in the delivery 30% ahead of schedule.
The first phase included the demolition and construction of the new entrance, reception area, waiting room, and a section of the lab facility. Laborers removed a part of an exterior wall to create the entrance. The phase two encompassed the reminder of the lab area. The MEP work included all new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sprinkler systems. The dental stations connect to dedicated medical waste drain lines. Other medical systems include compressed air, water, and vacuum lines.
The facility features lab tables with Corian and Formica tops, VCT and carpet flooring, sheetrock walls, custom cabinetry and millwork, luminescent and wall sconce lighting fixtures, and acoustical grid and sheetrock ceilings. The waiting room features a soffit ceiling with cove lighting..
