Tanner Park Beach Complex
Kerrigan Road, Copiague, NY
Client: Town of Babylon
Architect: Sidney B. Bowne & Son, LLP
Size: 7,000 s.f.
Cost: $1 million
The Pavilion at Tanner Park in Copiague was the first municipal building in the Town of Babylon built according to LEED specifications. Stalco served as general contractor for this ground-up project, which received the LEED Silver rating.
The 7,000-square foot, two-building complex encompasses the 5,000-s.f., Cape Code-style main pavilion and the 2,000-s.f. pool house. The one-story main pavilion houses a snack bar, surf shop, and bathrooms. Stalco utilized numerous locally sourced and recycled construction materials and installed photovoltaic roof panels that supply a significant portion of the facility’s energy needs. The team also sorted out and recycled all leftover construction materials.
The pavilion features a slab on grade foundation, split-face block masonry bearing walls and wood trusses, and pitched roof with asphalt shingles and a custom-built copula. The pool house structure houses pumps and other equipment for the pool and children’s spray park. The spray park features a cutting-edge water recirculation technology.
