Stalco is currently serving as general contractor for the extensive capital improvement program that encompasses ground-up additions and renovations at the Ward Melville High School and renovations at three elementary schools within the Three Village Central School District.
The high school additions include the two-story, 50,000 s.f. science wing housing 16 classrooms, a gymnasium expansion, 4,000-s.f. band and choir room, and 2,400-s.f. orchestra room. Renovations include the 16,000-s.f. auditorium, and multiple class, hallway, and bathroom renovations.
The additions feature slab on grade foundations and steel structures. The new science wing’s structural system is designed for a potential addition of the third floor. The gymnasium addition features a curved wall. All additions feature energy-saving Siplast Paradiene 30 CR FR cool roof with a solar reflective index of 91. The additions are designed in accordance with The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) guidelines.
Stalco performs the majority of work while the schools are occupied. To ensure the safety of students and staff, Stalco erected extensive safety fences, barricades and temporary walls. Noisy activities and demolitions are performed at nights and on weekends. Truck deliveries take place at dedicated entrances, inaccessible to students.
